I read this story last week and felt bad for the guy as I would be pissed if I had this happen but Bungie has taken a huge step by sending him swag when they had nothing to do with it. Here is the article; Bungie Unscrews Previously Screwed Gamer « Hawty McBloggy Invites You to Play (it also links to the original).

Exactly, I've always thought Bungie actually cared about its fans and were always in contact with the fans and turning down that MS offer was the best thing they could have done. If MS would have offered it before Halo 2 then they might have taken it because the money was great but after 3 Halo's and the money it brought it, they are able to expand and move into other games (and systems) without money problems as they are no longer a 'start up'.

They have been backed by MS for a long time but their 'contract' before related to the money from MS only being used for resources dedicated to projects dealing with the Xbox and Windows Games. Most of their interviews after they turned down the buy out was because they had an interest in developing different games and for other systems besides Xbox and did not want to be tied down to MS.

Thats true and it will be like that for a long time (if not forever). But the plus side is when they release a new series or whatever they plan to do the marketing team will advertise as 'from the developers of Halo', and how many thousands of people will buy it just from that line before even reading what the game is? But Bungie is known for great quality games so I don't think they have much to worry about as long as they keep it up. A lot of people compare them to Pixar for their high quality movies and story lines.
