Who needs third-party support when you have Mario Galaxy, Metroid Prime and a wealth of classic Nintendo games on the VC? Not me. I'm extremely happy with my little Wii, and I have my gaming PC for what you guys are calling "hardcore" gaming - however, I fail to see how CoD4 and BioShock fall into that category while Mario Galaxy, the toughness of which is betrayed by its cute graphics and music surpasses both in terms of difficulty by several times - it's akin to an Arnold Schwarzenegger-type figure dressed in a clown's outfit. The "Luigi's Purple Coins" level for example, was so hard that it could've been designed by Hitler himself. Took me a good long time to beat that, while CoD4 was over in a few hours and BioShock failed to kill me once. Now you can go on about "Veteran" or "OMG HARD" modes of difficulty to increase the challenge, but I prefer a game that has no option for difficulty and instead relies on an old-fashioned balanced difficulty curve to slowly challenge the player more and more as the game progresses.

Just my two cents.

The Wii is cute.

It's a system catered more towards family play rather than actual "serious" adult gamers.

This is a misconception that always rubs me the wrong way. How can a games console be considered any more "serious" than another? Games are not, and will never be a respected cultural discourse like books or films, and retain a similar status in the eyes of most to comic books - immature and frivolous.

I agree with Exit. The Wii was built for families, it was not built for the serious gamer. Nintendo has always been more family oriented, which has worked for them nicely.

Agreed it was designed with mostly families in mind, but the average or even the hardcore gamer can enjoy it.

I'm going to pick one up when I get a job.

Yea but I can't see myself playing it as much as my 360, you can't get the same online experience. Plus, the graphics are only mediocre, which would get annoying after a while, imo.

My Wii gets a lot of use not just from me but also from my wife and 4 year old son. It is also a great party system which gets a lot of use around holidays and other events. I've had my Wii since the midnight launch and it never goes longer then a few days without being turned on by somebody. Of course it doesn't get as much use as my 360 with Halo 3 and now Burnout Paradise but it can hold its own in my house. As a Nintendo fan for years the graphics really don't bother me much. Mario Galaxy and ZeldaTP are exactly how I want my Nintendo graphics. A good game can hold itself no matter what the graphics. Mario, Zelda, Sonic, etc are not really child(ish) games but games for a Nintendo. I wouldn't want Mario with CoD4 graphics just like I wouldn't want CoD4 with Mario graphics.
