Will valve become more involved in the PS3?

In a recent interview with 1Up.com Valve's co-founder and resident PS3 hater, Gabe Newell, has stated that the company needs to start thinking about development for the PS3. "I think we need to do a good job with supporting the PS3 with the Source engine," he says. Previously, Newell has been vocally anti-PS3, but is now saying that "we'll, over time, be directly more and more supporting the PS3 as our bandwidth allows us to."

So does that mean we can expect to see a PS3 version of Zombie-pocalyse-em-up Left 4 Dead? Newell states that Valve doesn't "have the bandwidth. For The Orange Box, EA did the PS3 version. They're interested in getting a PS3 version done. We just have to figure out where the resources can come from." Probably not until after the 360 and PC versions, then. Still, it's great that Valve is going to be looking into PS3 development at some point in the future. We're just hoping it's sooner, rather than later.

Yeah and the co-owner was also a hater, but he's now changed his mind and says they should start working with it.

Yeah, but in this case it's potential money that's doing the mind changing. If all Gabe means by this is that they're going to look more into having other developers make shitty, delayed ports of their future games, he can take and shove them up his fat, lazy, elitist ass. Seriously, either put the time and effort into creating a decent port that's comparable to the PC (by console standards) or the 360 version or don't do it at all. I really doubt many people who bought TF2 for the PS3 are going to be ready and willing to shell out cash on anything else they might put out for the PS3 in the future.

Well, aside from the fact that (from what I've read, mind you) it was an all around poorly done port with tons of bugs and issues, the thing it's missing is all future support. The 360 version has been largely ignored since it was released but at least there is promise of a large patch including the maps, achievements, unlockables for TF2 that have come out thus far for the PC version (albeit not free like the PC version). But they're completely abandoning the PS3 version. No patches, whatsoever. Not even for a couple really shitty bugs.

Ah well future support doesn't bother me largely, no one will even be on TF2 in about a month (console wise).
