FF13 maximized for PS3

Official PlayStation Magazine Australia sat down with two Square Enix heavy-hitters, Yoshinori Kitase and Shinji Hashimoto, to discuss what's up with the 13th Final Fantasy. Kitase gave an update on the development progress stating that several aspects of Final Fantasy XIII are now nearly done. "The scenario is pretty much complete and the artistic side is about 80% complete," said Kitase. While that's a lot of work already through the fire, there's still a few things left to do and don't forget the good old spit-shine polish.

Being a PlayStation mag, the publication also naturally asked the duo how the shift to a multiplatform release would affect FFXIII's quality. Kitase was quick to reiterate what Yoichi Wada had been saying since E3: "...the team is looking to specialize it for the PS3 so that the game will be maximized [for that console], and then they will port it over to the 360 and utilize the capabilities of that console." That means no loss of quality.

I'm glad more effort is going into the PS3 version even though I was buying it for the PS3 reguardless. I guess we'll be seeing it mid 09/late 09?

I'd put my money on late '09 but definitely a 2009 release... I hope anyway.

Glad to see that they are optimizing the game for the PS3 though, if they're indeed telling the truth.

Yeah I definately think late 2009. I think I read that in Japan it's going to be PS3 only and then they'll make it for PS3 in English and port it to 360, then when that's done, they'll release both at the same time in the states.

PS3 is region free, playasia will probably release an english version.

Sure, that's what they would be worried about (if they're not being truthful). Not, you know, the fact that telling potential customers that there will be a loss of quality in the product they're trying to sell them would be incredibly fucking stupid or anything. A loss in quality due to a decision that they made mid production, already lost of the trust of some fans as a result and that has already caused more delay for their game. Nope, it's gotta be the hate mail they never read.
