Haze Reviewed!

Famitsu: 34/40 (9/8/9/8)
PSM Italy: 9/10

I'm pretty pleased with these scores, especially since Leon keeps shouting "Fuck Haze" and "It's gonna be da biggest flop evar" whenever I'm around.

Should be noted that 34/40 from Famitsu is very good, since they're pretty harsh with their reviews. Also Japanese gamers aren't, generally speaking, big fans of first-person shooters. For example, The Orange Box also got 34/40 from them.

Personally I can't wait for this.

Having played the demo I really cant see what the fuss is about. I may be proved wrong and hopefully the demo was a few months old before it was released on PSN, so that they have had time to add some spit and polish to it.

I wasn't impressed by the demo either, but since then the texture mapping has been improved, and the demo doesn't even scratch the surface of what we can expect from the full game. Just as an example, the effects of Nectar sanitises the Mantel trooper's view of the battlefield to such an extent that they are unable to see dead bodies - giving the Promise Hand rebels a way to exploit their dependence on Nectar by playing dead, disappearing from Mantel's vision and then getting up again and kicking ass once they've turned their attention elsewhere. This was not present in the demo, and neither are a bunch of other things Free Radical are talking about like the Nectar Perception ability.

You know what, fuck this whole rating system of 9/10.

I found out from a friend who quit working on a fairly established site that they please publishers... for whatever rewards they seek.

Heh. Famitsu is the most respected gaming magazine in Japan. They have a board of four reviewers who each mark the game out of 10. Less than 20 games have achieved a perfect 40/40 and the magazine has been around as long as I can remember. They don't try to "please" anyone.

Haze is only gay because you're blinded by your Xbox fanboyism. I don't know why you've taken such a strong disliking to it, but I'm reckoning it has something to do with your lack of PS3, or at least your unwillingness to blow £300 on one.

Haze does look like shit though (and I'm not just talking about the graphics). The A.I looks average at best, the gameplay looks like a run of the mill FPS and the Nectar looks like nothing more than a gimmick. From what I can tell you can just go through 1/2 the game throwing nectar laced knifes and grenades and having the OD'ed enemies do all the work for you. Honestly there's really nothing all that amazing about it. I've said almost the same exact thing about Killzone 2 (save the part about the nectar.)

Yeah the PS3 pad is shit for FPS games. Shame you cant plug a wired 360 pad into the front and use that.
