Ohh I don't assume that, I just say it because that is how people see it these days. PC = Windows, Mac = OS X.

Even the mac commercials call Windows machines "PC"

STILL no real reason to get one at all for myself. I don't even understand the arguement that it's 'better' for graphics/media things, clearly not if you're using the same program.

Laptop my friend wanted(apple) = $2800ish with student discount.
Laptop I got(Vista) = $1200ish = no discount, better specs

I don't know why you hate it when people assume PC = Windows, you can thank Apple for keeping those thoughts around. They advertise Windows as a PC, so I do the same thing as a Mac user, when I talk about Windows I just put PC instead of Windows. That is how Apple has a lot of things listed on their support site as well so it is how they view it...

Pico; it is all about the OS and apps available. These are apps that you can't get on Windows. From GarageBand (which is included) to Final Cut for video editing. Pixalmator, VectorDesigner, etc. The once you get on a mac and use it for a week without Windows around it is a whole different experience. But until you do that then you will never see the reason.

And that justifys a $1600price difference for a laptop with actually poorer specs? I'm pretty positive windows will have alternatives to those programs like GarageBand band too.

For a lot of people it does justify it. Just about everybody I know online and offline use Macs and they justify the price (some paid more then I did for their MacBook Pros and Mac Pros). I just don't see it as costing that much. As you said with the laptop prices above my wife is purchasing a MacBook Pro which is more then my iMac but neither of us have thought it was really pricey.

Well you got a good job, might be why you also don't mind. Impossible enough to move out from your parents here, let alown spending $1400ish extra for as little as a OS.
