Boot Camp/VMware are there so you can easily move away from Windows. It is also for those who work on Windows at work but prefer Mac at home. Personally I only load up Windows when I need to browser test in IE6 & 7. There is nothing on Windows that I would need.
The beauty of VMware is that yes you are able to run Windows only apps (like those if your job is Windows machines only) but you still have the great features and look of Mac OSX. Yes, you are using Windows but in OSX environment instead of Windows which makes all the difference.
For awhile you have been able to run OS X on a PC Machine;
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OSx86 I know a lot of design/development firms that have a good mix of Macs and Hackintoshs which work perfect. Since Apple made the switch to Intel there has been no problem running OS X on a PC. So, that it is simply un-needed is just incorrect.
