Example? Resident Evil. Hmm want to have it take place is a badass, huge, scary mansion with loads of monsters? Nah, lets fuck over the entire storyline and put it in some random bunker. Sounds good!
Video game movies mostly appeal to, get this, people who played the game. So why in the hell do they think changing something that 98% of the audience already loves is a good idea?
And as much as I love video games, they don't make good movies. You can't re-create with a movie what you experience with a video game. The only game movie I could see being just like the game itself would be Halo. In which case they just show a painting of the Mona Lisa, then poop all over it.
